Umar Abdur-Rahman has been working at Hogan & Vandenberg LLC since April of 2007. He became an Associate at the firm in June of 2009. He is a member in good standing of the District of Columbia Bar. Umar focuses his practice exclusively on immigration law.

Umar completed his undergraduate studies at Lehigh University in International Relations (Middle Eastern Studies concentration) and Economics in 1999. During his studies, he spent a semester at the American University in Cairo studying Arabic, Islamic Law, and Arab History.

After graduating from Lehigh University, Umar spent a year in Sana'a, Yemen as a Fulbright Scholar studying Arabic and researching and writing on "The Impact of Marxism on Islamic Thought."

Upon return from Yemen, Umar attended Temple University's James E. Beasley School of Law from 2000 to 2003. While in law school, Umar specialized in Immigration Law, International Human Rights Law, and Civil Rights Law. During his final year of law school, Umar participated in Temple's Immigration Clinical taught by Immigration Attorney Joseph Hohenstein, Esq. As part of the clinical, Umar successfully represented an Iraqi man in an asylum case in Philadelphia Immigration Court.

During his final semester of law school, Umar wrote an article under the supervision of Professor Henry J. Richardson, III of Temple University's School of Law and Professor Mahmoud Ayoub of Temple's Religion Department on the intersection of Islamic Law and International Law. At graduation, Umar received an award for his contribution to critical thinking in the field of International Human Rights Law.

After graduation from law school, Umar spent the next couple years working in the nonprofit world and subsequently spent a year teaching English Literature at a private school in Philadelphia, PA.

While at Hogan & Vandenberg LLC Umar has worked on numerous cases ranging from asylum and relief under the Convention Against Torture to family petitions and student visas.

Umar is a Co-Founder and Board Member of the American Muslim Association of Lansdale (AMAL), a Greater Philadelphia based social service organization.

He is also a member in good standing of the American Bar Association, the Delaware Valley Muslim Bar Association and the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).
